Choosing a Material

Quartz is engineered stone: consistent color, no sealing, and highly stain resistant. Granite is natural stone with unique patterns; it needs occasional sealing. Laminate is the budget choice and comes in many looks, though it does not handle hot pans or cuts well. Solid surface allows seamless sinks. We bring samples and explain the tradeoffs honestly.

Edges matter too: a simple eased edge is clean and practical, while bullnose or ogee edges add detail.

Countertop Options

Quartz

Consistent, low-maintenance engineered stone.

Granite

Natural stone, each slab unique.

Laminate

Affordable, many colors and patterns.

A sink set below the counter for easy wiping.

The Process

How Countertop Installation Goes

01

Select

Material, color, and edge chosen; slab viewed if natural stone.

02

Template

Exact template made on your cabinets.

03

Fabricate

Slabs cut, edged, and sink and cooktop openings made.

04

Install

Counters set, seams joined, sink mounted, plumbing reconnected.

Templating and Fabrication

Stone counters are cut to a template made on your installed cabinets, not to a tape-measure guess. That catches walls that are out of square and ensures seams fall in sensible places. Fabrication usually takes several days after templating. Cabinets must be level and solid first; stone will crack over gaps, so we check the base before templating.

Sinks, Faucets, and Cooktops

A new counter is the time to choose a new sink. Undermount sinks make wiping crumbs straight in easy; farmhouse sinks need a cabinet that fits them. Faucet holes are drilled during fabrication, so faucet choice comes early. Reconnecting the sink and disposal is minor plumbing within B-2 scope covers drywall, finish carpentry, flooring, tiling, and minor plumbing and electrical fixture work. Gas cooktops need care and the right trade; we coordinate it.

Licensing and Permits

Replacing counters in place usually does not require a permit. Moving the sink, adding circuits, or relocating a gas cooktop may, and we confirm with the City of Chula Vista Development Services Department. California licenses contractors through the Contractors State License Board (CSLB); check the license of anyone installing your counters.

What to Expect on Install Day

Old counters come off, the sink is disconnected, and the new counters are set and seamed. Stone installs usually take a day; the sink is mounted and plumbing reconnected once adhesive cures. Backsplash tile often follows within days. We protect cabinets and floors and clean up before we leave.

Questions to Ask

Ask whether the template is made on your cabinets, where seams will fall, what edge profile is included, whether sink and faucet holes are included, and who reconnects the plumbing. Get the price and schedule in writing, including fabrication time.

Backsplash and Finishing Touches

A new counter usually calls for a new backsplash, since old tile rarely lines up with a new edge. Tile backsplashes are installed after the counters are set; a full-height slab backsplash in quartz or granite is fabricated with the counters. Outlets along the backsplash may need extenders so covers sit flush. We coordinate the order so tile setters, plumbers, and electricians arrive in sequence, and we leave care instructions for the stone you choose.

Laminate Done Right

Laminate counters still make sense for rentals, laundry rooms, and tight budgets. Modern laminates look far better than older ones, and postformed or square-edge profiles are available. Seams are placed away from the sink, and edges are sealed so water cannot swell the core. If you plan to upgrade to stone later, we can note what that would involve when the cabinets are installed.

Common Questions

Countertop Questions

How much does kitchen countertop installation cost?

Material, square footage, edges, and sink cutouts set the price. Laminate costs least; quartz and granite more. Moving a sink may need a permit from the City of Chula Vista Development Services Department, which we include when required.

Is quartz or granite better?

Quartz is more consistent and needs no sealing; granite is natural and unique but needs occasional sealing. Both are durable. We bring samples so you can compare in your kitchen.

How long does countertop installation take?

Templating, then several days of fabrication, then usually one day to install. Plumbing is reconnected once adhesive cures. Contractors should be licensed by the Contractors State License Board (CSLB).
